Malinda’s #REQUIEMSTORY

Being part of An African American Requiem means so much to me. Since I was 16 years old, I knew I needed to challenge myself with something new and different from the norm. When I heard Damien speak about his project at Gospel Christmas, I knew I needed to be part of it. The first rehearsal was confirmation I needed to be in this space, and I’m so excited about this piece of music.

My God Daughter lives in South Korea, and she began telling me about the Coronavirus right around Christmas. They were quarantined in January, and everything shut down. I never thought it would hit the USA and impact us as it has. The timing of the May 2020 performance was perfect and gave me something to look forward to.

While I was crushed to hear it wasn’t happening as planned, I have a new attitude now because I know it will happen in January 2021. I am so looking forward to being safe, staying alive, and being part of this life changing performance.

I can’t wait to see the faces of all who are involved, hear the amazing voices, and sing this incredible piece of music written by Damien Geter. This performance will bring me so much healing, joy, and peace within my soul. It’s powerful, heartfelt, and I know as a group, we will be connected for life.
