LISTEN
Giving voice to stories too often unheard.
LISTEN brings together powerful choral works that invite us to bear witness to experiences of injustice, grief, and resilience. Featuring commissions and landmark works from Resonance Ensemble’s first decade, the album gives voice to stories that demand our attention and reminds us of the healing and connection that become possible when we truly listen.
The album explores themes of:
Witness: Melissa Dunphy’s LISTEN sets the testimony of Anita Hill and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, asking whether we have truly heard the voices of women who speak out.
Grief and Transformation: Renée Favand-See’s Only in Falling, setting poetry by Wendell Berry, offers a moving meditation on loss, love, and the possibility of finding light through grief.
“It is so much better when we listen. Listen to recognize yourself in the other.
Recognize yourself in someone else’s pain, someone else’s laughter — struggles — singing.”
—S. Renee Mitchell, Poet
