Sunday, March 8 @ 2pm
Alberta Rose Theatre

The power of nature is so integrated into everyday life in the Pacific Northwest, and this is why it is so exciting to bring this repertoire to the stage with Resonance Ensemble.
— Danielle Jagelski, conductor, composer

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Join us for the West Coast premiere of The North American Indigenous Songbook, a groundbreaking collection of vocal music by Native composers for the concert stage.

Curator and pianist Timothy Long (Muscogee Creek & Choctaw Nations) partners with guest conductor and composer Danielle Jagelski (Oneida Nation & Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe) to lead Resonance Ensemble and soloists in this historic performance. The program includes Volume 1 repertoire by Dawn Avery (Mohawk), Raven Chacon (Diné), Connor Chee (Diné), and R. Carlos Nakai (Navajo‑Ute), alongside world premieres from Volume 2 by Jagelski and Marion Newman (Kwagiulth & Stó:lō First Nations).

Cherokee photographer Joe Cantrell provides immersive visual art, creating a multi-disciplinary experience exploring identity, connection to nature, and resilience.

“There is no repertoire like this in existence. The North American Indigenous Songbook attempts to fill this void by creating a new library of repertoire written by descendants of the first inhabitants of North America.” — Timothy Long (The New York Times)
