Join percussionist Chris Whyte and pianist Maria Garcia as they disrupt the matrix with music and video by Canadian composer Nicole Lizée, whose glitching works are equal parts 80s MTV, turntablism, rave culture, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Alexander McQueen, thrash metal, psychedelia, and 60s modernism.

From the earliest days of the Christian tradition, the faithful have venerated the Virgin Mary through song, telling the story of her life and of the cosmic significance of her role as the Mother of God. This program presents music for her drawn from the Greek and Slavic traditions by both ancient and modern composers. We give a special place to composer John Tavener and the late Father Ivan Moody (1964-2004), to whom this concert is dedicated.

CMNW’s Artistic Directors, pianist Gloria Chien and violinist Soovin Kim, have joined forces with cellist Paul Watkins of the Emerson Quartet to create a new powerhouse: the Chien-Kim-Watkins Trio. Together, these three thrilling musicians will take us on a musical journey exploring the genius and virtuosity of some of Beethoven’s greatest chamber works.

PJCE Records & Soul’d Out Present their next Artist in Residence Series: ALLISON MILLER TRIO ft. GEORGE COLLIGAN! New York City based drummer, composer, teacher Allison Miller engages her deep roots in improvisation as a vehicle to explore all music. On top of releasing more than a dozen albums as a leader or co-leader, she’s the engine powering the highly acclaimed Blue Note supergroup Artemis. George Colligan is not only one of the great jazz pianists of his generation, but he has earned an international reputation as a multi instrumentalist (drums, trumpet, organ, keyboards), composer, accompanist, teacher, and bandleader, as well as popular blogger.

Smiling snowmen, snow angels, and warm bubble baths: experience the magic of Ezra Jack Keats’ beloved children’s book come to life on the opera stage. The Snowy Day follows the adventures of young Peter as he explores his neighborhood on a snowy day, making new friends and encountering unexpected wonders along the way. With music by Joel Thompson and libretto by Andrea Davis Pinkney, the west coast premiere of this new opera is a celebration of imagination, nature, and friendship. Sung in English, The Snowy Day is a perfect introduction to opera for young people, and a joyful reminder for audiences of all ages about impermanence and the wonders of youth.

In Mulieribus presents their spring program, which contemplates the mysteries of time and eternity through music and texts to touch our hearts and unite us across time and space. The program will feature the complete performance of Oregon composer Andrea Reinkemeyer’s haunting Cycles of Eternity, as recorded on IM’s recent album. Soprano Arwen Myers joins IM for this special program.

Amendment: Righting Our Wrongs
Sunday, March 17 | 2:00 PM | Alberta Rose Theatre

A concert featuring trailblazing composers, poets, and activists showcasing dynamic new works that look to our past to inspire a better future. Join us and be the first to hear the world premiere of From the Book of Sankofa, a new work commissioned by Resonance Ensemble composed by critically acclaimed jazz pianist Darrell Grant (who ‘Gramophone’ calls “a composer of substance”) with poetry by award-winning writer, A. Mimi Sei. The evening also includes works by Joel Thompson (known for his powerful choral work Seven Last Words for the Unarmed and his opera The Snowy Day), and performances by Oregon Symphony principal cellist Nancy Ives, clarinetist Dr. Barbara Heilmair, and a special appearance by Taylor Stewart—the visionary founder of the Oregon Remembrance Project—who will share impactful stories throughout the performance.

Iran/America: Common Themes, Different Worlds presents works by Black American composers Brittany J. Green, Jordyn Davis, Shelley Washington, and Iranian composers Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Aida Shirazi, and Anahita Abbasi. These captivating compositions explore the transnational intersectionalities of violence, trauma, struggle, and glimmers of hope.

Sing, My Child is In Medio’s third annual High School Choir Invitational. The concert will feature high school choirs from around Oregon alongside In Medio singers. Our mission involves supporting young singers and showing them how choral music can be part of their lives. Each of the high school choirs will be directed by their own teachers, some of whom are members of In Medio. It’s an evening of diverse repertoire and opportunities for growth, inspiration, and mentorship for the students and directors alike.

Resonance has organized with other local arts organizations to support one another through reciprocal discounts! Think of it like a one-stop coupon book for great arts events happening in Portland this March. From the opera stage and concert hall to intimate local venues, the goal is to encourage arts lovers from all over PDX to explore what their community has to offer.

How Do I Access Discount Codes?

This page! Each event has the discount code listed under the ticket button. Some organizations may also email you a list of codes as part of their newsletter (subscribe to ours here)—so keep your eyes out in March for these fantastic last-minute deals! You can plan your own arts crawl and save big on the fantastic events Portland artists and ensembles have to offer.

Is Resonance Ensemble Getting Paid From Each Sale?

Nope! We believe in fostering a collaborative arts ecosystem, and just want to get audiences out to experience the fantastic art our city has to offer. While we make money on our own tickets, we won’t receive any kickbacks from other organizations - they keep 100% of the sale!
