Resonance invites experienced singers to audition to join our core group + members of Kingdom Sound Gospel Ensemble for a unique and groundbreaking performance opportunity. The 120-voice choir will perform as the African American Requiem Choir for the world premiere of Damien Geter's An African American Requiem. This revolutionary work will be performed in Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall with the Oregon Symphony on Saturday, May 23, 2020.
DOWNLOAD A PRINTABLE AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT FLYER
In order to be considered, singers will need to fill out and submit an Audition Request Form
You may audition in person on Monday evening, November 18th, or Tuesday afternoon and evening, November 19th.
If necessary, singers may submit a video audition.
At the audition, you will be expected to:
Vocalize on a five-note scale, up and down, going up by half-steps on "ah" to the highest comfortable pitch of your vocal range.
Vocalize on a five-note descending scale, also on "ah," going down by half-steps to the lowest comfortable pitch of your vocal range.
Sing a 16-measure excerpt (or 1-minute excerpt) of a solo of your choice, preferably a sustained/ballad style. The purpose of this is to hear you sing something you are comfortable with and that shows the quality of your voice.
Sing your voice part on Excerpt 1 (Lacrimosa) from An African American Requiem, along with the recording of all 4 voice parts SATB together. We provide the PDF and MIDI files here, both of your individual part (for practice purposes only) and of all 4 voice parts together (for the audition).
Sing your voice part on Excerpt 2 (Libera Me) from An African American Requiem, along with the recording of all 4 voice parts SATB together. We provide the PDF and MIDI files here, both of your individual part (for practice purposes only) and of all 4 voice parts together (for the audition).
REHEARSAL EXPECTATIONS & RESOURCES
Singers will be expected to master their own part. To support this goal, Resonance will provide:
Practice resources for singers who learn more by ear (MIDI files of each part and of the combined SATB choral parts)
Two optional "bonus rehearsals" to review challenging spots.
Singers are also welcome to record our rehearsals and sectional rehearsals.
PLEASE NOTE: After music has been taught in two rehearsals, singers will be expected to have mastered their own part and be able to work on vocal and musical nuance.
Singers will be compensated $300 for the rehearsals and performance.
Singers must commit to the following rehearsal schedule. They may miss 1 regular rehearsal, but they commit to attending all of the concert week rehearsals. Additional absences will necessitate replacement.
